RSS

See - I told you I was ripping through this.

I have used Bloglines for a while. I like being able to go to one spot at one time and check my feeds. I have gone from having lots to only a very few now. They can generate a phenomenal amount of reading.

The Good Library Blog is one of my favourites (and it's nothing to do with Perkins, I swear).

Catching up

The road to hell...

But I am here again, catching up on Learning 2.0, mainly so I keep apace, if not ahead of, the public library staff in the program.

Created a Flickr account (more passwords and secret questions - if only I was putting anything out into cyberspace that anyone else would be remotely interested in!). But will not inflict my very poor photographic attempts on anyone.

Back to the program - I am very taken with the concept of creative commons. NTS - read more about it.

Now onwards to Week 4 and beyond...

Thoughts on photos

Flickr - what can I say? At least you can't misspell a photo (think I just misspelt 'misspell') but again it's a bit of a case of why bother? Does anyone out there really need to see my photos of the State Library, seriously art house though they are? And in any case, a moot point as the prospect of creating a Flickr account was all too much at the end of the week!

From the work viewpoint I can see the value of a collection of library photos provided they are good quality, usefully labelled, and frequently culled and updated.

The concept of 15 minutes a day is not quite working for me - too little time in one hit to do anything really, so I'm bundling my minutes into a once-weekly hour. Good in theory...

More blog reflections!

This is another Learning 2.0 blog for library staff, and I thought there were a few good ideas as to how libraries might use blogs, both from a work and customer-centric viewpoint. It's also a nice clear crisp looking blog itself, and I may keep a bit of an eye on it from time to time.

The temptation, I guess, is to subscribe to too many blogs and then be enticed into spending far more time reading and following links, than the contents merit. It's so much harder to speed read online than the mass of paper stuffed into the in-tray.

Anyway, back to OUR Learning 2.0 - am seriously behnd schedule...

Random rainy thoughts

Have spent a few pleasant moments looking at the Test Pilot blogs. Ahh, we're all frustrated writers, publishers, designers, diarists, aren't we? And dare I say it - slightly voyeuristic. But I fear the novelty will wear off quickly for me, even though it's very tempting to spend time rambling your way through other people's thought processes.

The blogs that I have subscribed to (and they are all work-related - what a very boring girl I am) have to give me information I can't or won't find elsewhere, with not too much text/comment and lots of links to the REAL point. I'm not much interested in a personal (or for that matter, professional) opinion from someone I don't know BUT I do want to keep in touch with what is happening in those areas of the profession in which I am interested.

Blogs that work for me? Museum/ gallery/library blogs that let me experience, remotely, the feel of the actual place; 'alert' type blogs that link me to relavant information sites; but I'm not too sure about those very text-heavy pages - are blogs the right medium? The spirit of Marshall McLuhan...
